Morton’s schmortons. If you want the best steak in Hong Kong there’s only one place to go and that’s Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Sure, it’s not given away, but the steaks are so tender and juicy that they just melt in your mouth.
We had two normal sized filets, the Petite Filet and a 16oz New York Strip plus baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, gratin potatoes, brocoli, spinach and a tomato salad. We ate the whole lot, plus pudding, it was that good.
Really, this was the best steak I’ve had in a long, long time; cooked to perfection and served by knowledgeable, friendly and not overbearing staff.

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is just an American franchise. They broil their meat in butter-filled pans so no duh they are good, but the place started in Lousiana and I bet there has to be a place in Hong Kong with some local history that is as good or better. Saying they are the best in Hong Kong is just like saying they are the best in the world because they are an international franchise — and even that wouldn’t be true. If you want a REAL steakhouse — where they actually kill the damned cow on the premise, and then cook it up fresh — you have to go to the good ol’ U.S. of A and Peter Luger Steakhouse in NYC. I have had both and Ruth looks like a Denny’s Chicken Fried steak in comparison.

@ Chris – thanks for your comment. I know Ruth’s is a chain, but steak isn’t part of traditional Cantonese cuisine so there aren’t any local restaurants serving a juicy 12 ouncer. I entirely agree that somewhere more authentically Hong Kong would kick the arse off a franchise, but I have to admit, and stick by my guns, that Ruth’s offers the best steak option in the city.
